Julie’s path to homecare was not conventional. She did not start university until her mid-30s, having worked in various jobs that left her feeling unfulfilled. However, one thing remained constant – her ability to be resourceful and solution-focused. When she eventually pursued a degree and postgraduate studies, she honed her skills in leveraging data to create meaningful and informative insights.

Her journey in the homecare industry began in 2002 when she was raising young children. She came across an advert seeking care workers, with or without experience. Intrigued by the opportunity, she took the leap. This role provided her with firsthand experience and an appreciation for the hard work and dedication required in the sector.

The Inspiration Behind Homecare Gurus

Julie’s deep-rooted passion for homecare stems from a personal experience. Her father was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes that required monitoring and insulin injection. His carer played a significant role in his well-being, meticulously adjusting his meals to help maintain his blood sugar levels. Thanks to this exceptional care, he was able to go nearly three years without requiring insulin injections. Witnessing the profound impact that a dedicated care worker could have on a loved one’s life inspired Julie to start Homecare Gurus.

During the global lockdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, a friend invited Julie to assist in providing care within the community. Having worked in and out of the care sector for years, she was familiar with the requirements. However, this time, something felt different -she wanted to create a meaningful impact. Her mantra? “Treat others how you would want to be treated.” This philosophy became the foundation of Homecare Gurus, ensuring that each client receives the same level of compassionate and personalised care she would want for herself or a loved one.

Julie Beyond Work

When Julie is not leading Homecare Gurus, she is indulging in her love for reading. At any given time, you will find her juggling both fiction and non-fiction books. She is currently reading “The Nemesis Manifesto” by Eric Van Lustbader and “The Greatest Salesman in the World” by Og Mandino.

Beyond books, Julie enjoys gardening, cooking, knitting, attending theatre performances, and music concerts. She is also keen on learning new languages and is currently learning Spanish.

Julie believes that the success of Homecare Gurus is built on the dedication of its care workers, admin team, and clients.

“Our care workers are at the core of our success. They show up every day, with smiles on their faces. Nothing is too onerous to them. We value their integrity, compassion and loyalty immensely,” says Julie.
